Marketing Promotional Products

promotional products work marketing

Today on Seth Godin’s blog, he hit right at the heart of something many people get wrong when they ask “When do we get to the marketing part?”

It was early in the development of a new product, and someone asked this question.

I’m not sure the word “marketing” means what you think it means.

Later, we will get to the promotion and advertising part.

But right now, this is marketing. All of it.

The product. The warranty. The team. The color choices. The pricing. The way it feels in your hand. The urgency we have to tell our friends…

If you wait until you’re done before you do the marketing, you’ve waited far too long.

As Seth so eloquently states, it’s all marketing. So don’t wait to think about marketing once the product, or service, or event is created. The way we experience your event is part of the marketing too.

I had the chance to speak with Lindsey Davis from PPAI about a new event they have coming up called the Promotional Products Work Expo. It’s a virtual “end user” event designed to help buyers get to know more about the industry (and products they can use to promote their brand) and to help elevate the industry. You can watch the full interview here.

Each day, we have the chance to elevate the story we tell about what we do. Are you taking the chance to do that? Are you attending and taking part? This is a new chance to start that today. Learn more about the event here.

As a side note, I am incredibly excited that we have started this blog page on the Better Business University site. My goal will be to share content to inspire, educate, and challenge you as you elevate your career in the industry! Here’s to each of us leveling up…as we help to market our own industry in the process!
